Si Hidayah punya pasal ni.

Bismillah

Asalamualikum

LOL! Okie, title of the post maayybbe out, but since Hidayah provoked me about the telkong issue, I shall obliged. InsyaAllah.

But first, do you mind answering the latest poll to your right *points*. So I may get an inkling of what my readers know about solat with or without telkong.

Please have patience with me ya. Currently 7 months carrying, and have a couple of events to settle this weekend. So I’m finishing up the post in bits and pieces. I just discovered carrying a human inside you is no easy feat! Mothers, I salute you!

A sneak preview tho would be pictures, just to arouse thy curiosity ;)

These pictures were taken from a Winter Camp I attended back in 2007 whilst in the UK. The first picture was stolen off someone, the second is from my phone-camera.

(I’m in here somewhere. Lol. find me!)

Somehow Im anticipating the next question would be ‘Can solat if not in a solat hall?’ :)

Wadday fink? :)

Intermeresting , no? ;)

Don’t forget to answer the poll!

for me.. i dont think there’s a need of wearing telekung for praying.
as long as we’re wearing pakaian yg menutupi aurat tani (ofcoz BUKAN pakaian yg ketat sampai terkeluar jubur), labuh kan tudung tani, bersarung hingga pergelangan and berstokin….

    That’s all…

I loveeeeeee this pic..(rasa dakat sajaa). i think nda pyh pakai telekung. Just to share a story.. Kalu tani liat rah negara lain.. mcm di makah kalu siapa yg pernah kesana.. urg tani (yakni, brunei, malaysia, indonesia) saja yg betelukung. tapi negara lain.. mcm Afros,Arabs themselves..and muslim lain dari tempat lain(insyallah) inda jua ku teliat pakai telekung. (masa atu alum tepikir tu..tapi aku ikut jua.. sal mcm convienient..esp when you are on the move).

Telekung was only invented by our ulama di tanah melayu tani.. untuk memudakan perjalanan menyebarkan islam. For short..(rasanya ka ness pun kan explain nanti.. ehehehe) ,urg tani dulu esp perempuan kalu tani notice laa..dlm pilim malayu tani selalu liat perempuan melayu bekamban kan.. (sorry for the word).. iataa.. ulama tani dulu..cara paling mudah untuk supaya durg buleh perform solat yg sempurna.. durg introduce telekung.. which in turn covers area yg wajib di-tutup masa solat..(sensible or not, you think? ) wallahuaklam..

ka ness and yg lain please luruskan, kalu ada yg tersilap.

the telekung is quite convenient, especially at home when we probably dress down a little since there are no non-mahram around. we can just throw it on and ta-da, aurat is covered. and yea, maybe the convenience is why our people created the telekung – just like Mimi stated above.

but before this i never knew that hands aren’t actually part of aurat during solat. before this i though that aurat during solat and aurat when you’re in public are different. my understanding was:

aurat during solat – the whole body except for the face
aurat when in public – the whole body except for face, hands and feet.

so therefore i thought that we HAVE to wear telekung during solat to use to cover our hands.

BUT. I WAS WRONG. the aurat when in public is the same as the aurat during solat. and feet are part of our aurat! (i tried finding ayats or hadith to verify this but i couldn’t :( but i swear i read before somewhere that stated women should cover their bodies except face and hands. no exception of feet whatsoever so feet must be part of the aurat then!) so cover your feet with socks when you go out in public. those are (some of) the few (or many?) things i never knew. may Allah (SWT) forgive us for our ignorance.

i read on someone’s blog before, (i think it was Ness’s, correct me if i’m wrong), a little point that she made where ladies give reasons that when out and about, they don’t stop over the masjid to pray because they don’t have their telekung with them so their aurat is not fully covered. so if you think you’re aurat is not covered enough for solat, then you’re aurat IS NOT covered enough. because aurat when in public and aurat during solat is the same.) and most masjids now have ‘rental telekung’ anyway, telekung that is provided by the masjid for anyone to use there.

just last week i had the chance to pray at a masjid here in UK, because me and my friends went on a daytrip so we did solat jama’. and they asked me if i brought my telekung along. i remembered the comments in your previous post and thought, ‘explain kah inda ah’ (they were all men by the way). So i just told them, ‘asal semua aurat tutup sempurna inda payah bertelekung’.

So, i think the telekung is just a cultural thing, much like many other cultural things in the South East Asian region that are associated with religion like wedding ceremonies and such. it’s good that we’re born in a country with such rich heritage, but we need to understand clearly which is culture and which is religion. i think it’s a good thing to educate the Brunei public with this.

thanks for starting this topic Ness, there’s so much I still need to learn about Islam, and I’m sure other sisters will appreciate this too.

Woish! Didnt think it would speculate into an interesting discussion :D Allah (SWT) jua-lah yang Maha Mengetahui semuanya..

There’s a hadith riwayat Aisyah radiyallahu anhu, on teguran Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wassalam to Asma’ binti Abu Bakar. The story goes that Asma’ went to see Baginda dengan pakaian yang tipis, then Rasulullah tarus berpaling darinya and said, “Hai Asma’, sesungguhnya jika seorang wanita sudah mencapai usai haid (akil baligh), maka tak ada yang layak terlihat kecuali ini,” sambil baginda menunjuk wajah dan telapak tangan. Hadis ani diriwayatkan oleh Abu Daud and Baihaqi.

I’m sure sweetiebums would share a very interesting post with regards to this (no pressure though :P ) so instead of potong queue, I’d sit back and wait like normal people :D

    Wubs!

    Salaam xoxo

It’s true we don’t necessarily need telekung to solat, as long as aurat tertutup. But then sometimes we don’t realise that our baju atu, eventho usulnya menutup aurat, sometimes jarang kan and ada samar2 warna kulit tia, and ada yang menunjukkan bentuk badan sikit, when bukankah bentuk badan atu pun kira aurat? and sometimes for the tudung ada some people yang just pakai headband saja so macam ada rambut2 yang poking out of the kain tudung atu kan hehe.. so with telekung at least dapat banar2 mencover the aurat dengan lagi sempurna.. and inda jua mengapakan pakai telekung if tani mampu pakai, at least bleh kira macam memuaskan hati tani bahawa aurat tani atu tertutup dengan sempurna thus contributing to solat yang sempurna kan.. :) melainkan kalau masa kan solat atu nada terdapat telekung berdekatan lah.. and i dun tink urang brunei malaysia indonesia saja yang pakai telekung, coz if you surf around you can find jua prayer clothings for women in the UK and US. Ganya jarang durang pakai kali. And we have to remember jua that Islam has many Mazhab, so different mazhab might ada slightly different rules regarding aurat in praying.. such as below.. taken from http://halaqah.net/v10/index.php?topic=3477.0

    a. Mazhab Hanafiyah

    c. Mazhab Asy-Syafi’i

And since Brunei ikut Mazhab Syafii, hence yatah kali common pakai telekung tu, untuk tutup aurat2 yang wajar.. :) So yea that’s a bit from me hehe.. Correct me if I’m wrong yea.. Tani sama2 saling tegur menegur.. :)

    Salam.

*chuckles* It’s surprising to hear about how girlies get tagur-ed without telakong when establishing the prayer at the masajdi. I was thinking…REALLY?! So it’s a much needed post Ka Ness :D :D :D I’ll wordpress u, I’ll facebook u…we spreaaaaaaaad~!

I’m agreeing with Huda that if we can’t solat the way we are when we walk out of the house..it simply means that we’re not dressed in a way that covers the aurah. And in reference to what Inayah have commented, it is true that sometimes we don’t realise if we’re dressed okay (i.e. nda nampak shape, ada rambut ternampak, etc). So what I do is, I’d have my mom or my aunty inspect me before I walk out. My very own personal quality control peeps! :D

I’ll be lookin forward to reading ur pooooooost~

ooh duluu masa sekolah ugama kali, if i’m not mistaken i remember someone saying that we wear telekong because the nature of it (kain putih) is similar to kain kapan so we are praying in the state similar to as if kami dikuburkan. inda salah ku lah. kind of makes sense i guess, since the reminder of death during solat can make us closer to Allah (SWT).

    Big salaam~

    Interesting topic!

I once heard a ceramah related to this. The topic was on ‘”Proper tutup aurat” I think…

The Ustaz said if u wana know if u r covering ur aurat perfectly/correctly or not, see if u can go solat with that on (without a telkong). Thats a brilliant indicator I reckon! nda kah? From that, we can conclude as long as u cover urself up correctly according d syariah, that wont stop u from performing ur solat.

Even in the “Syarat-syarat Sah Solat” there’s no mention on “Telkong”. Only “Menutup aurat”. Maybe we got mixed up with those two words!

Ironically nowadays most telkongs r see-thru type when the purpose was to make sure everything is hidden underneath!

Im not against telkong pulang. Just that its not a must… peace out.
